Our
Approach
When we are assisting you to create your Life
Celebration we like to get to know you a little and understand
what is important to you in celebrating this event. This ensures
that the ceremony fits you and your situation.
Generally we make a time to meet for an initial conversation,
usually about an hour in duration. Questions such as those below
provide a basis for our discussion:
- What has brought you to the point of marking
this particular milestone now?
- What thoughts/plans have you made so far?
- What other experiences have you had of simular
events - what did you like (or not like) about these?
- What traditions, if any, do you have in your
family or wider cultural or spiritual context that you might
like to bring to this Life Celebration? Think also of any special
interests that are important to you and which may offer a theme
around which to build your Life Celebration.
- Who do you envisage being involved in this
Life Celebration and what ceremonial role, if any, will they
play?
- Are there any special issues or sensitivities
that need to be taken into account when designing this event?
Typically we would each then go away with ideas
to develop and use email, phone or fax to add to what we have
discussed. Ideally several weeks 'gestation time' helps people
refine and clarify what they would like and resource any materials
they would like to use. Then we would commence the detailed design
for the Life Celebration.
Ceremonies such as weddings, or others where many
people are involved, often require a rehearsal. This is best scheduled
up to about a week in advance, at the time of day and place of
the actual event. Logistics can be checked out and everyone is
then clear on what they need to do.
For some types of Life Celebration, people
prefer not to have detailed knowledge of the actual wording to
be used, so that the magic of the whole event unfolds spontaneously
at the time - this is a matter of personal preference.
